Shalom u'Vrachah!
I received your letters in due time, and what pleased me even more was the personal regards delivered by Mr. Yaakov Meridor, who surely conveyed my regards as well if he is already in Eretz HaKodesh (the Holy Land), as well as the content of our conversation regarding both private and communal matters.
It goes without saying that I enjoyed meeting Mr. Meridor, and I thank you for arranging this.
My heart aches because of the recent propaganda being conducted against religion and religious people—both in form and scale (my silence) that no one could have imagined would occur among Israel; in both senses: among the people of Israel and in our holy land.
Apparently our era is capable of all sorts of innovations and discoveries—even surprises. And as our Sages teach that the measure of good is greater than the measure of punishment (Sotah 11a), may it be G‑d’s will that we soon merit surprising news in matters of goodness and holiness—the eternal values of our people since ancient times.
According to the motto of Chassidus, beginning with its founder the Baal Shem Tov: one cannot estimate the hidden treasures within every single Jew; fortunate is he who reveals them and puts them into action.
As we stand before Pesach, the Festival of Matzos—our time of freedom—may it be G‑d’s will that there be freedom in all areas and matters: freedom of body and soul together. In truth, one cannot exist without the other. As mentioned above: fortunate is he who merits to contribute his proper share to true freedom—not only personal freedom but also communal freedom; indeed, even here one cannot truly have one without the other.
Summary
The Rebbe highlights the importance of personal connection amidst challenges to faith, urging us to reveal each Jew's inner potential. He teaches that true freedom encompasses both body and soul—personal redemption is inseparable from communal redemption.
