Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from the 29th of Iyar: When you write your name and your wife's name along with each mother's name, they will be mentioned at the holy resting place of my revered father-in-law the Rebbe zatzukal-leha nabgam zya in accordance with the content of your letter.
Regarding a male child: I heard from my revered father-in-law the Rebbe what he received from his ancestors—the story in the style of the verse: Bameh Yizkeh Na'ar ("How can a youth merit")—a male child—Es Orcho ("his path")? Through the mitzvah of hospitality. However, it is understood that this must be within the context of observing all of Torah and its mitzvos. And no matter how good one's situation is in this regard, there is always room to add more since we are connected to Hashem Who is infinite.
And in Torah study it is understood and obvious that he should have set times for learning the inner dimension of Torah which in our generation has been revealed through Chassidus by its founder our teacher the Baal Shem Tov z"l. This year marks two hundred years since his passing—his yahrzeit—a year especially auspicious for spreading this Torah.
Certainly your wife takes care regarding proper head covering. It is also appropriate to have his tefillin as well as the mezuzos in their home checked to ensure they are all kosher according to halachah. Likewise, your wife should maintain the fine custom of Jewish women to give charity before lighting candles every Friday afternoon and before every festival eve.
Blessings for good news in all of the above.
Summary
The Rebbe writes that blessings for children are connected with hospitality and observance of mitzvos. He encourages regular study of Chassidus, careful attention to family customs like head covering and charity before candle lighting, and checking tefillin and mezuzos.
