To the Avrechim who sit in Torah and avodah at Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch, in the holy community of Paris, may they live, greetings and blessings!
Shalom u'Vrachah!
I was pleased to hear from Haraha"ch iy"a nu"m who is involved with tzt"z, mashpia and director, Rabbi Nissan sheyichyeh, regarding the order of your study and avodah and the progress you are making in this with G‑d's help. However, on the other hand, I was pained and saddened that apparently, due to thoughts about the question of relocation, there is a lack of sufficient attention and necessary depth required for Torah study in general, and especially for learning Chassidus and engaging in avodah of prayer. Although now is not the time to elaborate on this at length, nevertheless, due to the importance of this matter, I am writing briefly below:
You surely know the sichah of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, who explained regarding the journeys of Bnei Yisrael in the desert: that from journey to journey they would dismantle the Mishkan and then set it up again in a new place. It is stated in Scripture that their time at each stop was not equal; as it says: 'Veyesh asher yihiyeh he'anan me'erev ad boker venis'u baboker... o yom v'lailah... o yomayim o chodesh o yamim (shana)' (And sometimes the cloud would be from evening until morning and would lift in the morning and they traveled; or a day and a night... or two days or a month or days [a year]). But in all these journeys there was a common factor: 'Al pi Hashem yachanu v'al pi Hashem yisau' (By G‑d's word they encamped and by G‑d's word they traveled). Another common factor: 'Mishmeres Hashem shamaru al pi Hashem b'yad Moshe' (They kept G‑d's charge by G‑d's word through Moshe), meaning there was no difference or change in setting up the Mishkan or any aspect of G‑d's service whether they stayed for years or only from evening until morning.
This is also logically understood even by human intellect or even by animal soul intellect: since they encamp by G‑d's word and travel by G‑d's word—which is above time and space—yet the purpose of creation generally, and these journeys specifically, is to make for Him a dwelling place within physical time and space. Therefore we have only to fulfill our Creator's will and thereby connect ourselves with His essence; whether it be for many years or just from evening until morning. Since our task is to bring above-time-and-space into time-and-space below, differences in duration are irrelevant.
Accordingly we can also explain what is stated at the end of Tanya chapter 25: that this unity above is eternal forever... so too His will revealed through His speech—which is Torah—is eternal. This also provides another explanation for what is often brought up in Nigleh regarding matters requiring a certain measure: if it is a mitzvah matter then its mitzvah status makes it as if it has physical measure.
I strongly hope that these few words will suffice. I look forward to soon hearing good news that you are increasing your Torah study and avodah—both personally and through your influence on others—and certainly you will merit what our Sages said as law: when one sanctifies himself a little below he is sanctified much more from Above.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that true dedication to Torah study transcends external circumstances; whether one's situation changes frequently or remains stable for years, one's commitment must remain constant because fulfilling G‑d's will connects us with His essence beyond time or place.
