You should write to your son Mr. ... as soon as possible that he should be careful to put on teffilin every day (obviously except for Shabbos and Yom Tov). If it is impossible for him to put on teffilin in the morning, he should do so during the day, from sunrise until sunset. You should also explain in your letter that putting on teffilin is a mitzvah in its own right; therefore, it is not relevant here how he stands regarding other mitzvos. The special merit of this mitzvah—specifically putting on teffilin—is long life and returning home safely. Enclosed is also a letter—in English—to your son about this matter, with a message from my father-in-law, the Rebbe, which he sent at his time to soldiers in the army.
