הרצוג, יעקב אליעזר

Rabbi Yaakov Eliezer Herzog (born 1932) was one of the founders of Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim in Melbourne and served as its head for many years. He was also a founder of Beis Rivka in Melbourne. He was born in 1932 (5692) in Verbo, Czechoslovakia, to his parents, R' Menachem and Mrs. Chayale Herzog.

As a young man, he studied at Yeshivas R’ Yitzchak Dushinsky, Yeshivas Etz Chaim, the yeshiva in Shepparton, and Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim in Lod, until 1956 (5716).

After marrying Mrs. Bracha, daughter of R' David Yosef and Rivka, he settled in Melbourne, Australia. Together with R' Yehoshua Shneur Zalman Serebryanski, he founded Yeshivas Oholei Yosef Yitzchak Lubavitch in Melbourne. In addition to his role in managing the yeshiva, he served as part of the teaching staff and as the acting head of the yeshiva. Despite his young age, he corresponded with the Rebbe, receiving various directives and guidance.

He served as head of the yeshiva until 1974 (5734), when Rabbi Binyamin Gabriel Cohen was appointed to lead it.

In the 1990s (5750s), he served as a rosh yeshiva in Nitra, located in the Catskill Mountains of New York.
