Committee for Arranging the Yeshivas in Shepparton and Melbourne (Australian Yeshiva Organizing Committee)

Committee for Arranging the Yeshivas in Shepparton and Melbourne (Vaad HaMisasek B'Sidur HaYeshivos B'Shepparton U'Melbourne) refers to the group of community leaders and organizers in Australia responsible for overseeing the establishment and relocation of yeshivas (Jewish educational institutions) in the cities of Shepparton and Melbourne.

Correspondence with the Rebbe

The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, corresponded with the Committee in a letter dated 7 Kislev 5712 (1951), acknowledging their communication regarding the decision to relocate the yeshiva from Shepparton to Melbourne. The Rebbe expressed pleasure upon receiving their update and extended heartfelt blessings for the inauguration of the new yeshiva building, which was scheduled to coincide with the 10th of Kislev, the day marking the redemption of the Mitteler Rebbe.

In his letter, the Rebbe emphasized the significance of the yeshiva’s mission: to raise a generation faithful to Torah and mitzvos, imbued with the spirit of Chassidus, and to serve as "candles that illuminate their entire surroundings." He invoked the merit of his revered father-in-law, the previous Rebbe, whose name the yeshiva bore, and prayed for continued blessing and success in the yeshiva’s endeavors. The Rebbe also extended his blessings to all founders, supporters, and participants, both past and future, that their involvement should bring them material and spiritual goodness.

To ensure clarity and inclusivity for all participants in the celebration, the Rebbe instructed that his blessing be sent in English as well as Hebrew. He highlighted the auspiciousness of inaugurating the yeshiva on the day of the Mitteler Rebbe’s redemption, expressing confidence that the merit of the Rebbeim would bring blessing to all involved.

Guidance and Encouragement

The Rebbe’s letter included words of spiritual encouragement, referencing a teaching from the Alter Rebbe and the Mitteler Rebbe about Divine Providence, even in seemingly minor details. He reassured the Committee and the broader community that their relocation to a distant land was guided by G-d’s providence and ultimately for their benefit, both materially and spiritually. The Rebbe’s tone throughout was warm, supportive, and deeply invested in the success and spiritual growth of the Australian Jewish community.
