Shneor Zalman Gurawitz (Chassidic Community Member in Canada)

Shneor Zalman Gurawitz is a correspondent who wrote to the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, upon his arrival and initial settlement in Canada. The letter from the Rebbe addresses his circumstances as he begins to establish himself in a new environment.

Correspondence with the Rebbe

The Rebbe's letter to Shneor Zalman Gurawitz is warm and encouraging, acknowledging receipt of Gurawitz's letter that reported his safe arrival in Canada and the start of his process of settling in. The Rebbe expresses heartfelt blessings that Gurawitz should find proper settlement both materially and spiritually, and that he should be able to set fixed times for the study of both Nigleh Torah and Chassidus with peace of mind and body. The Rebbe also encourages him to strengthen his efforts in the area of tzedakah (charity).

A central theme in the Rebbe's guidance is the importance of not delaying the establishment of regular Torah study until all circumstances are ideal. The Rebbe emphasizes that Torah study, especially when set at fixed times, is itself the vessel that draws down and receives both material and spiritual blessings. The sooner one prepares this vessel, the sooner blessings will come, and the greater the vessel, the greater the blessings received.

The Rebbe also thanks Gurawitz for a mishloach manot (gift package) he sent, and encloses a booklet for Pesach along with a general letter relevant to him. The correspondence concludes with the Rebbe's wishes for a kosher and joyous Pesach and for Gurawitz's successful settlement in all areas.
