Incorporating Learning into Play for a Child's Growth

The Rebbe responds to parents celebrating their son's seventh birthday, blessing them to raise him in Torah and good deeds. He advises that even in play, efforts should be made to include some aspect of learning, consulting with educators and community leaders for guidance.

Shalom u'Vrachah!

In response to your letter, in which you inform me that your son... has turned seven years old. May it be the will of Hashem that you and your wife together raise him, along with your other children, to Torah, marriage, and good deeds with abundance.

Regarding what you write about "az er farshpilt zikh" (that he plays around), efforts should be made so that even in this there is some aspect of learning (even though this does not fit the American custom). When you consult about this with the mashpia and the rosh yeshiva together with Harav Hachassid... Rabbi Chaim Mordechai Aizik Hodakov, you will surely find ways regarding this.

With blessings for the holiday.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that even a child's play can be infused with learning and growth. By seeking guidance from educators and leaders, parents can find ways to nurture both joy and education in their children's lives.
